Invitation of Dinner by Paranormal creatures

I have a lot of experience of seeing ghosts.  I want to share with you one such experience which is really very scary experience.  It is about those days when my age would have been only 14-15 years. I was an intermediate student at that time.  My father was serving in a sugar mill in the state of Bihar.  After passing high school, he got me enrolled in a school run by Aligarh Muslim University.  My school had declared winter holidays for 15 days, so I had come to my maternal grandmother to spend the holidays.  My maternal grandmother's house was located in the city of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.

In Nanihal, my grandmother was very fond of playing cards.  She often played cards at night when everyone was sleeping.  And especially on winter nights, she used to play cards while eating dry fruits wrapped in a quilt.  She used to involve me and my two aunts in playing cards.  Both my aunts were unmarried at that time.  Playing cards, she often used to go to two and a half three in the night.  Sometimes my aunts would be reluctant due to waking up in the night, the grandmother would shout- "Oh Najma! You can't have that much heart for mother. I have a lot of sorrow in my heart. I am fed up with Zeba's (my elder aunt's) sorrow.  "

Nani had married my elder aunt ie Zeba Khala in a wealthy family of Mumbai.  But sorry!  Her husband did not care for her at all.  He had made Zeba Khala yearn for Pai Pai.  Nani used to experience the same sorrow.  One such night I, Nani and both the aunts were playing cards when suddenly Nani said- "Hey look at this lizard!!! Why is its stomach bloating so much? It looks like as if it is pregnant.My daughter Zeba  will also be pregnant. O my God! I had forgotten this. When my zibiya's  baby will be born then I will perform with great pomp. But oh lizard queen!  Will you invite us to your event or not!”Hearing such a conversation with the granny, my aunts beat their heads and said - "Amma, just do it now! You wake us up in the nights and make programs to enjoy lizards' feasts. Now let's go to sleep."  Nani kept shouting to the aunts but the aunts jumped and went to sleep in their respective rooms and the grandmother and I kept on laughing loudly.  Nani used to make me sleep in the quilt next to her.  Said- "Son! The night is enough, now you too go to sleep!"

Then I too fell asleep.  I dreamed that night that big lizards are sitting on chairs and feasting.  When I woke up and told Nani, we and Nani laughed a lot. Similarly, we used to play cards and laugh and joke and chuckle every night and get up late in the morning.  One night we were playing cards in the same way that around 12:40 pm we heard a knock on the door facing the courtyard. Nani said- " Oh Najo! Just look! The cat is knocking on the door, just drive it away!"  Our Khala got up, removing the quilt from the heart, and shaking  the doors, making a sound of 'Shऽ shऽ', started trying to remove the cat.

But I felt that there was someone else at the door and not a cat because I had very loud ears and I could hear the low voice of a woman from afar.  I shouted from there and said- " Khala Jaan! Don't open the door. I don't know who has come this night?"  Now my Khala also stopped making her voice and started trying to hear the voice by putting her ear on the door.  By this time I had also reached the door.  It seemed to me that some young lady was slowly saying something.  Once upon a time this thought also came in my mind that no woman should be in any trouble.I was about to open the door thinking that someone was holding my hand tightly from behind.  I looked back.  It was my grandmother who had been standing behind us since long.  She said sternly to me - "Are you completely  out of wisdom? Is this the appropriate time to open the door, and even if a person of acquaintance came due to some problems , then he would have come through the main gate of the house and what was the need to come through this rusty  door that opened to jungle.

Hearing this talk of Nani, I also got into thinking.  Actually Nani was right and I had not thought of this.  Now I took my hand off the door latch.Nani pushed me and Khala backwards and herself stood in front of the door and said in a stern voice- "O! Who are you and why have you come here at such odd hours of night? If you are hungry, then look up against the wall above  Handi is kept in it, you can eat some leftover food, and there is a hand pump behind the bushes in front and drink water by running it.  There is a wall of red color, a brick is broken in the middle, in it a twenty rupee note and a ten rupee note are kept buried with a piece of brick, if you need it, take it and if you want to spend the night then a broken one  cot and an old blanket are kept in the corner by the wall, you can use it to spend the night in some way and yes! Don't knock here again!"  We were listening to the long talk of a simple grandmother.

Saying this, as soon as the grandmother turned to leave, a loud voice of a woman was heard at the door - "Hey I am Shanno, Shanno! You do not recognize me, do you?"  Hearing this, I said - "Shanno aunty! How did you come here at night? You used to live in Badotola?"  Hearing this, she said- "Hey I am Shanno! I am Masood's wife."  On this my grandmother said- "Hey Shanno! You are living in Kabulpura, what have you come here to do at night from so far away?"Till now all this conversation was going on from the closed door that our Khala went ahead and said - Amma, open the door!  Shanno is standing and you are talking through closed doors."

Then Nani asked Khala to stay behind with a gesture of the opposite hand to my expectation and refused to open the door in gestures.  Nani said to Shanno  Aunty- "Look Shanno! The third part of the night is passing. You have come to this door, this is rusty. I am unable to open it. Now you are lying outside somehow on the bed."  Take a pass and leave in the morning, but yes! Have you not told your purpose of coming here during this night?"

On this Shanno Aunty said- " Oh yes Bibi ji! I forgot to mention that my daughter Razia has given birth to a male child and this is my first Navasa ( Grandson). So l want to invite you all that the coming night's dinner party at my house."Hearing this, my Nani said- "Hey Shanno! Razia has been married for only three and a half months, how is the child so soon?"  Saying this Nani became silent.  On this Shanno Aunty's voice came - "Hey do you know that marriage was done long ago but the child is now born". We and Nani did not pay any special attention to this matter of Shanno Aunty.  Nani said- 'But Shanno!  Tell me one thing that your house is small, you will have more guests coming, will you have any inconvenience due to our arrival?" On this Shanno Aunty's voice came -"Bibi ji, don't you worry!  Arrangements have also been made in the ground behind Zyarat and yes! Everyone has to come, bring all your children, Sahab ji, and grandson as well.  We will be very happy.  Tomorrow night my son Nanua will come with Khatola (rickshaw), sit in it, you all come, and yes!  Now I go, this time is the time for all of you to sleep, but we have to do all the work at this time." Hearing this suddenly came out of my mouth - "Auntie, is it not your time to sleep?" Nani immediately interrupted me and said, shut up! And said in a low voice - "These poor people do all the work by themselves, what time to sleep and what time to wake up for them?" But there is no answer to my question from behind the door and it seemed that now Shanno Aunty was gone.

  About forty minutes had passed since we had this conversation with Shanno Auntie.  It was too late and now we started going to our respective beds to sleep.  While walking along, Khala said to Nani - "Amma, you did not let the door open. Shanno Baji had come from such a distance to give us a feast."  To this Nani said- "Yes Najo! You say it is fine but it is my rule that late at night I do not open the door even for a person I know. Late at night the door can be opened only for the one who is a member of this family."  Well now leave these things, tomorrow we all definitely have to attend Shanno's program."

  In the morning at the breakfast table, Nani told Nana and all the maternal uncles about Shanno Aunty's feast and said that everyone has to get ready on time.  Our maternal grandfather said a lot and said - "Wife, I am no longer able to attend the feasts. You should take all the children and the grandson along with you. I eat diet food. Here Karim will cook my food."On hearing this, Nani stood straight in front of Nana and said in a stern voice- "Oh! You are old but you have not lost the habit of showing tantrums. Listen with open ears, you have to go with us." Eventually Nana had to lay down his arms before Nani and everyone finally agreed to attend Shanno Aunty's feast.

We were all fully prepared by eight o'clock in the night.  Nani had also put gajras of flowers in her hair and Nana was dressed in sherwani.  In this, Nani ji smiled looking at Nana and said - "Wherever I look, you are there, I do not know but in what thoughts are you lost."  On this Nana said - "Wife! I am regretting being lost in the thoughts of only one, now only you tell me in this old age and in whose thoughts should I be lost?"

In the midst of this laughter, it was half past eight.  We saw that at exactly 8:30, Nanua was present for us with a car instead of a rickshaw.  The car was a completely new car.  Nani told Nanua that she has to go a little far away, why did she spend so much money, we all would have gone by rickshaw.  Nanua said - "No one, Ammi has said that everyone has to bring them comfortably. And yes! The road by which we usually go  to Qaboolpura is not well, so we have to walk via Bilsi road."  Nana said that no one, we are in no hurry to take the path that we want.  Nana gave necessary instructions to Karim and said that he does not know how long the program will last, so he should sleep after eating his food and do not wait for us and we go away with a lock from behind and when we come, open the lock and enter the house. 

Then we all started sitting in the car.  I felt a strange smell inside the car.  But I paid no attention to it.  I sat in the seat next to the driver and all the Mama, Khala and Nani sat in the inside seats.  Looking at the car, it seemed that not everyone would be able to adjust to it.  But I was quite surprised when I saw that everyone was sitting comfortably in the car.Nanua said that he would reach on foot and explained something to the driver by sitting on the seat and our car started towards the destination.

In the car I saw that Nana and Nani were sleeping with their heads behind the car seat.  And the same was the case with Mamu Khala.  But I was awake.  I felt the car moving slowly.  After this, I also realized that there is a lot of flexibility in the structure of the car.  As soon as I grabbed the handle of the car to avoid impact, it felt that it is soft like rubber.  I knew this in my mind and blindly I also rested my head on the seat.  I stayed like this for five to six minutes, then suddenly I open my eyes and see that the driver's seat is empty and the car is moving.  Seeing this, my senses were blown away.  I immediately looked back and saw that my uncle, maternal grandmother, was sleeping peacefully.  When I turned my neck again, I saw that the driver was sitting in his seat.

Now I thought maybe I was having some dream in my sleep.  When I poked my arm, I felt pain.  Now I was really scared.  When I wanted to see the time in my watch, all the digits of the clock were erased.  After all, I tried to look under the window to see how much more time it would take, so I could neither see the road nor the trees.  I could only see smoke and felt like the car had stopped. I was getting very confused and was also getting very angry at that unknown driver that how the road had become so long for only 5-6 kms.

I said in a loud voice to the driver, in a deep confusion, why have you stopped the car?  After all, when will you take us to the feast?  There was no response from the driver but a recorded voice message appeared on the screen in front of the car.  "Its maximum speed is 2500 km per hour and it has reached it maximum speed".  Now I felt like a situation  if you bite with me, a situation of no blood would arise.  I somehow managed myself and said - "Hey driver saab! Why are you not taking us to destination, say something?"When there was no response from there, I shrugged the driver's shoulder.  But it was the driver's shoulder in which the spring was engaged, it had come in my hand.  Now I started to faint myself but I heard a sound on the screen of the car - "What you have done? Now all of you are dying. This is the last attempt to save your life. Just hold down the broken part and try to place it from where it is broken and press the red button immediately".

I immediately followed the instructions written on the screen from where the voice message appeared and started remembering God with my eyes closed.  When 'Khatak' sounded, what do I see that the driver's hand is joined back to his shoulder and the message appears on the screen of the car - "Thank God! Now you all are saved".  Now it did not take me long to understand that what we thought of as a car was not a car but a driverless vehicle controlled by robots.  I no longer felt the need to wake up Nani Nana and Khala Mamoo because with their awakening, we could all get into some new trouble. So I thought it better to remain calm.  But I was constantly wondering who was disguised in the form of Shunno Aunty and  Nanua as well. I knew Nanua very well because he had driven me around in his rickshaw many times.  After all, I didn't know who came in their forms?

I was just thinking that the sound was heard on the screen-" Don't think much, you all are about to enjoy the party!” Now I realized that apart from robotics there is some other invisible force also present in our vehicle which is able to read my mind too. Now it seemed that with a stroke the car has stopped. Nana-Nani, Mamu-Khala suddenly got up and said, have we reached? Then from behind, Nanua came out of the car's trunk and said - "Yes Memsahab!  We have reached." But Nanua, you were coming on foot, Nani said, how did you come with us? On this Nanua said - "Memsaab!  I thought I should go with you people, so I sat down under the trunk of the car." Then we all stood at one place. We saw Shanno aunty and her husband, her daughter Razia and some unknown people coming towards us with flower garlands in their hands.  They reached us and showered flowers on us, garlanded us and gave us a grand welcome. And took us with them and took us to the party venue. There was loud music playing and dancing to the tune of music.  We were seated in a state-of-the-art and very decorated hall. First of all, sherbet was served and then a variety of sweets. In those sweets, instead of the sweetness of sugar, the sweetness of jaggery was felt. Together with us  Our maternal grandparents and Khala Mamu were all surprised. They were saying that such a hall would be in a small town like Badaun, it would not be too far-fetched even in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Our Nani would come out of the hall and go outside again and again.  When she looked outside, she could see Zayarat's backyard and the fields adjacent to it. Nani would repeatedly tell her husband - "Shanno is a poor woman see who looks after her here."After all, who made these arrangements for her? Miyan! (Nani's husband) did'nt you look outside, but we are here near Shanno's house. I don't understand what all this is all about?" And the most surprising thing was that now Shanno's height was seen to be around six and a half feet and her face was shining like the moon of the fourteenth.

Everyone present in this program was unknown to us.The height of the males was around seven and a half feet.  Everyone was dressed in a royal style.  We all felt very strange.  Everyone was bowing down to us and saluting.  Our maternal grandparents were very upset that we do not know in which world we have come.  Mamu was saying that the city of Badaun has been fully seen by me, I grew up here, but I have not seen such a luxurious fort-like house anywhere in the entire city of Badaun.  Then the banquet started, everyone was served food in silver plates and we were served on gold plates.  That one plate of his was looking bigger than the restaurant Kutumb Sampoorna Thali in Delhi.  There were waiter-like boys standing around us who were serving all kinds of food to us, veg and non-veg.  Every dish had a sweet aroma of saffron.  Our maternal grandfather was very fond of mutton, but he said - "Now in old age my teeth do not allow it".  On this, Razia came smiling wearing a heavy sharara and said - "Sir! Just put it on the tongue just once and taste it and then spit it out".  Nana Ji used to say that as soon as he placed that mutton piece on his tongue, it dissolved like butter and reached the stomach.  After this, Nana Jaan thoroughly enjoyed the feast of Mutton, Chicken, Fish, Bihari Pasande, Shami Kebab, Kathi Kebab, Seekh Kebab etc.  Nani kept interrupting, but Nana said that today I do not know whether I will get such a chance again or not.The situation of Mamu Khala was also similar as if people who had been hungry for years got food today.  As far as I estimate there must have been two-and-a-half thousand kinds of food in that party.  When I ate, my maternal grandmother ate on a full stomach.  After dinner, we were offered ice creams and pastries of different flavors and dry fruits.  Each of their guests wanted to feed us dryfruits with their own hands.  We were taking some dryfruits from everyone's hands.  Everyone present there used to bow down to us and say thank you.  Thus at last we all abstained from eating.  Nani said that it seems that we stayed here for a long time.  It is time for Fajr (sunrise) we should take permission from our host.  When we and our maternal grandparents came to take permission from them to return, Shanno Aunty and her son Nanua and her sister Razia were standing with folded hands.  They said- "Bibiji, we are very grateful to you for bringing glory to this hut of ours.

Nani said- "Oh Shanno! Why do you feel ashamed. MashaAllah! you all have become  big people. You all have done us a lot of respect and care. Must come home. Well now we have to go to our homes."  Shanno Aunty said - "Yes , sure! Oh Nanue! Now see what is happening, go get a good car for them, which has a good speed. You took hours to bring here."  Nanua said- " Take it now Amma ji! This is a fast car, it will not run but will fly."  Hearing this, a sudden displeasure came out of my mouth - "When has the previous car also come after that, it has also come by flying."  Hearing my answer, Shanno Aunty got a little stunned and started looking at me in a strange way.  Then I made the point that the previous car has also come at a good speed. Now Shanno Aunty was looking normal whereas my maternal grandparents did not pay any attention to me.

The car had arrived for us.  We all sat in it.  Then Shanno Aunty held an envelope in my hand and said- "Son! After reaching home, open it and read it quickly and if possible, read it aloud in front of the family members because within half an hour of opening the envelope.  After this the handwriting will be erased automatically and son, in this envelope, the article to read at normal speed is written for twenty five minutes. I took that envelope from Shanno Aunty's hand and put it in the back pocket of my pants.  Her kids said bye to us and we headed towards home. I was sitting in this car also in the seat next to the driver but at this time someone else was driving. Suddenly a voice message appeared on the screen - "Now we are moving at the rate of fifty thousand kilometers per hour". I was shocked to hear this message.

Within fifteen minutes we had reached the main road of our locality.  The driver gestured and asked us to get off the road.  We got down on the road there and headed towards our house.  We reached the main entrance of our house in about ten minutes.  When I opened the lock of the house, Karim  Dadu was found sitting on the mat in the courtyard.  Nana said hey Karim!, why are you sitting here like this?  And Karim Dadu, whom we also called Kamulla Dadu, was looking at us tearfully.  Now our Nani said- "Why come, horns have grown on our heads, is the one who is looking at us like this? Will you say anything or will you continue to see like this?"

Now Kamulla Dadu came to his senses and said - "Sir! Where did you all go after all? I was looking for you all in the world but you could not find anyone. I asked all your relatives but no one told about you rather  everyone was doubting me. I kept swearing, kept crying with my head in my knees but no one was ready to believe me. Your cousin said that if by this afternoon, my brother-in-law and his children's clue is not found, he will give me to the police. And sir!  He is Shanno!  I also went to her house, yes sir, she said that how dare you apply ab on my daughter, it has not been four months since her marriage that you say that she will give birth to a child and are you making fun of us?  It is not right for us to eat our own food and what will we do with this party-shortness in the guise of the rich.  Look, get better!  Don't take me lightly, if I give even the slightest hint, the people of my fraternity will throw out your Kachumar."

  Kamulla Dadu narrated all his agony in one breath and started looking at us.  Now our elder maternal uncle said - "But Karim uncle! We had gone after telling you that we might be late in coming and that's why we also put a lock from behind so that you should not be inconvenienced. And what are you doing in one night."  Have all the relatives and Shanno visited Baji's place? Oh, have some shame! There is a limit to lying too."  On hearing Mamu's statement, Kamulla Dadu said, "Okay! So you guys mean I'm a liar? Do you know what day it is? Just look at the calendar. You went as a night, but on the fourth day you are entering the house."  And you are telling me a liar?  "  Now it was our turn to surprise all of us together.  Our maternal grandfather said - "There must be something wrong".  Then suddenly I noticed that letter given by the so-called Shanno Auntie.  I immediately opened the envelope.  It was a letter written in Hindi language on smooth paper.  I started reading that letter aloud.  It was written in that-

  Adab to Muazziz Bhai Saheb and sister-in-law, lots of love and prayers to the children and grandson!

  At this time all of you will be very worried about us and maybe we are also being mentioned in your house.  So listen up!  Like you, we are also the creature of God.  The only difference is that you have a definite form, color and shape, but we do not have any definite form.  But we are wishful.  you are born on this earth and this is where you die.  But there is no certainty about the place of our birth and death.  The age of your people is limited, but at most one hundred years we have a small child of hundred years.  The normal life of our people is up to one thousand and twelve hundred years.

  That day our daughter was roaming in the form of a pregnant lizard during the night, when sister-in-law's sight fell on her and sister-in-law requested her to give a party.  In the beginning our daughter remained silent but on repeated favors, she promised to have a feast.  We are rich in talk and sure of promises.  We had to keep our promise in any case, but the problem before us was that we had to go to a particular place to change our appearance.  My real name is Shanno, my daughter's name is Razia and boy's name is Nanua.  We have found out on the basis of our knowledge that the people of these names have been related to you but in the form of servant and his family.  Whereas we belong to the royal family.  Now we had only one option to appear before you in the form of your maidservant and we did the same.  And after that everything happened that you must have seen and felt.  If you are surprised to see our vehicle, then we just want to say that we do not have any advanced technology than you. We are completely dependent on you in the matter of science and technology.  Yes, as members of the royal family, we are the first to benefit from the developments that take place here in these areas.  and yes!  Bhai Saheb who was repeatedly trying to guess the place by looking outside, where he was and used to come inside seeing that Zyarat and Khet were visible.  That was not reality but "augmented reality technology". Where we took you people, we cannot tell because of our Oath, but we can definitely tell that it was a place of the earth, but it was located far away from your place.  Our entire family is apologizing to you for the inconvenience caused to you due to us.

So this was her letter.  Although its words were getting erased as I read, but I had memorized every single word of that letter.  After this wonderful incident, our grandmother had completely stopped playing cards at night.  If she had seen a lizard in or outside the house, she would put her hand on her mouth.  Please leave a comment and tell how this incident was?

हिन्दी अनुवाद 

मुझे भूत प्रेत देखने का काफ़ी अनुभव है। मैं आपसे एक एसे अनुभव को साझा करना चाहता हूँ जो वास्तव में बेहद डरावना अनुभव है। बात उन दिनों की है जब मेरी आयु मात्र 14-15 वर्ष रही होगी। उस समय मैं मैं इण्टरमीडिएट का छात्र था। मेरे पापा बिहार राज्य में एक चीनी मिल में सेवारत थे। उन्होंने हाईस्कूल पास करने के पश्चात मेरा दाख़िला अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा संचालित स्कूल में करवा दिया था। मेरे स्कूल में 15 दिन की जाड़े की छुट्टियाँ घोषित हो चुकी थीं इसलिए मैं छुट्टियाँ बिताने अपनी ननिहाल में आया हुआ था। मेरी ननिहाल उत्तर प्रदेश के बदायूं शहर में स्थित थी। 

ननिहाल में  मेरी नानी को ताश खेलने का बहुत शौक़ था। वह अक्सर रात में ताश खेलती थीं जब सब सो रहे होते थे। और खास तौर से जाड़ों की रातों में रज़ाई लपेटकर सूखे मेवे खाते हुए ताश खेला करती थी। वह ताश के खेल में मुझे तथा मेरी दो मौसियों को शामिल करती थीं। मेरी दोनों मौसियां उस समय अविवाहित थीं। ताश खेलते खेलते अक्सर रात के ढाई तीन बज जाया करते थे। कभी-कभी मेरी मौसियां रात में जागने के कारण आनाकानी करतीं तो नानी चिल्ला कर कहतीं- " अरे नजमा! तू माँ का इतना दिल नहीं रख सकती। मेरे दिल पर बहुत ग़म है। मुझे ज़ेबा (मेरी बड़ी मौसी) का ग़म खाए जाता है।"

नानी ने मेरी बड़ी मौसी अर्थात ज़ेबा खाला की शादी मुम्बई के एक धनाड्य परिवार में की थी। परन्तु अफ़सोस! उनके पति उनका ज़रा ख़्याल नहीं रखते थे। उन्होंने ज़ेबा ख़ाला को पाई पाई के लिए तरसा दिया था। नानी को यही ग़म खाए जाता था। एसे ही एक रात मैं, नानी और दोनों मौसियां ताश खेल रहे थे कि अचानक नानी बोलीं- " अरे ज़रा इस छिपकली को तो देखो!!! इसका पेट इतना क्यों फूल रहा है? यह तो मुझे गर्भवती लग रही है। मेरी ज़िबिया (ज़ेबा ख़ाला) भी गर्भवती होगी। हाय रे! मैं तो भूल ही गयी थी। मेरी ज़िबिया की जब विलादत होगी (बच्चा पैदा होगा) तब मैं धूमधाम से कार्यक्रम करूंगी। पर ए छिपकली रानी! तेरे तो लगता है कि बस विलादत होने ही वाली है। तू हमसब को अपने कार्यक्रम में बुलाएगी या नहीं!" नानी का छिपकली से एसा वार्तालाप सुनकर मेरी मौसियों ने सर पीट लिया और बोलीं- " अम्मा अब बस भी करो! हमें रातों में जगाती हो और छिपकलियों की दावतें उड़ाने के प्रोग्राम बनाती हो। अब हम तो चले सोने।" नानी मौसियों को आवाज लगाती रहीं पर मौसियां उछलकूद करती हुई अपने अपने कमरों में सोने चली गयीं और मैं और नानी ख़ूब ठहाके लगा कर हंसते रहे। नानी मुझे अपने पास ही रज़ाई में सुलाया करती थीं। बोलीं- "बेटा! रात काफ़ी हो गयी है अब तू भी सो जा!"

फिर मैं भी सो गया। मैने उस रात सपने में देखा कि बड़ी बड़ी छिपकलियां कुर्सियों पर बैठ कर दावत उड़ा रही हैं । जब मैने जाग कर नानी को बताया तो हम और नानी खूब हंसे।इसी तरह हमलोग रोजाना रात को ताश खेलते तथा हँसी-मज़ाक़ व चुहलबाज़ी करते रहते व सुबह देर से उठते। एक रात इसी तरह हमलोग ताश खेल रहे थे कि रात के लगभग 12•40 पर हमने आंगन से लगे दरवाजे पर खटखट की आवाज़ सुनी। नानी बोलीं- " अरी नजो! ज़रा देख! बिल्ली दरवाज़े पर खटखट कर रही है, उसे भगा दे ज़रा!" हमारी ख़ाला बे मन से रज़ाई हटा कर उठीं और दरवाज़े के किवाड़ों को हिलाकर शीऽ शीऽ की आवाज़ निकाल कर बिल्ली को हटाने की कोशिश करने लगीं ।

पर मुझे लगा कि दरवाज़े पर बिल्ली न होकर कोई और है क्योकि मेरे कान बहुत तेज़ हैं और मुझे दूर से ही किसी महिला की धीमी आवाज़ सुनाई दे रही थी। मैने वहीं से चिल्लाते हुए कहा- " ख़ाला जान! दरवाज़ा मत खोलना। पता नहीं इतनी रात में कौन आया है?" अब मेरी ख़ाला ने भी शीऽ शीऽ की आवाज़ निकालना बंद कर दिया व दरवाज़े पर कान लगा कर आवाज़ सुनने की कोशिश करने लगीं । इतनी देर में मैं भी दरवाजे पर पहुंच चुका था। मुझे एसा प्रतीत हुआ कि कोई कम उम्र महिला धीरे-धीरे कुछ कह रही हो। एक बार को मेरे मन में यह भी विचार आया कि कोई महिला किसी मुसीबत में न हो।यह सोचकर मैं दरवाज़ा खोलने को हुआ ही था कि किसी ने पीछे से मेरा हाथ कसकर पकड़ लिया था। मैने पीछे मुड़कर देखा। यह मेरी नानी थी जो न जाने कब से हमारे पीछे ही खड़ी थीं ।  वह मुझसे तड़ख़ कर बोलीं-" तू अक़्ल से बिलकुल ही खारिज है क्या? यह रात का वक्त कोई दरवाज़ा खोलने का वक्त है क्या और अगर जानपहचान का इंसान किसी मजबूरी के कारण भी आता तो मुख्य दरवाज़े से आता उसे रात के इस पहर जंगल की ओर खुलने वाले जंग आलूदह ( ज़ग लगे हुए) दरवाज़े से आने की क्या आवश्यकता पड़ गयी?"

नानी की यह बात सुनकर तो मैं भी सोच में पड़ गया। वाक़ई नानी ठीक कह रही थीं और यह बात तो मैने सोची नहीं थी। अब मैने दरवाज़े की कुंडी पर से अपना हाथ हटा लिया। नानी ने मुझे और ख़ाला को पीछे की ओर ढकेला और खुद दरवाज़े के सामने आ खड़ी हुईं और कड़कदार आवाज़ में बोलीं- "ओए! कौन है तू और यहाँ इतनी रात गए क्यों आया है? अगर कोई भूखा है तो ऊपर दीवार के सहारे ताक़ में हांडी रखी है उसमें कुछ बचा-खुचा खाना होगा उसे खा ले और सामने झाड़ियों के पीछे हैंडपम्प लगा है उसे चला कर पानी पी ले।और अगर तू वक्त का मारा इंसान है और तुझे कुछ पैसों की ज़रूरत है तो बाएँ हाथ की तरफ़ जो लाल रंग की दीवार है उसके बीच की एक ईंट उखड़ी हुई है, उसमें एक बीस का नोट व एक दस रुपये का नोट ईंट के टुकड़े से दबा हुआ रखा है, अगर तुझे ज़रूरत है तो ले जा और अगर तू रात गुज़ारना चाहिता है तो एक टूटी चारपाई व एक पुराना कंबल दीवार के सहारे कोने में है, तू उसका प्रयोग कर किसी तरह से रात काट ले और हाँ! अब यहाँ दोबारा खटखटाना मत!" हमलोग दम साधे नानी की लम्बी तक़रीर सुन रहे थे।

इतना कहकर नानी जैसे ही जाने के लिए पीछे की ओर मुड़ीं कि दरवाज़े पर एक औरत की ज़ोरदार आवाज़ सुनाई दी- " अरे मैं शन्नो हूँ, शन्नो! तुमलोग मुझे  पहचानते नहीं हो क्या?" यह सुनकर मैं बोला-" शन्नो आंटी! आप यहाँ इतनी रात में कैसे आयीं? आप तो बैदोटोला में रहती थीं?"  यह सुनकर वह बोलीं- "अरे मैं शन्नो! मसूद की बीवी हूँ ।" इस पर मेरी नानी बोलीं- "अरे शन्नो! तू तो क़बूलपुरे में रह रही है इतनी दूर से रात के वक्त यहाँ क्या करने आयी है?" अभी तक बंद दरवाज़े से ही यह सारा वार्तालाप चल रहा था कि हमारी ख़ाला आगे बढ़ीं और बोलीं-' अम्मा दरवाज़ा तो खोलो! शन्नो बाजी हैं और तुम हो कि बंद दरवाज़े से बातचीत किए जा रही हो।"

नानी ने मेरी आशा के बिलकुल विपरीत हाथ के इशारे से खाला को पीछे रहने को कहा और इशारों- इशारों में दरवाज़ा खोलने से मना कर दिया। नानी शन्नो आँटी से बोलीं-" देख शन्नो! रात का तीसरा पहर गुज़र रहा है । तू इस दरवाज़े पर आयी यह जंग आलूदह ( ज़ंग लग् हुआ) है। मुझसे तो यह खुल नहीं रहा है।अब तू बाहर पड़ी चारपाई पर किसी तरह रात गुज़ार ले और सुबह चली जाना, पर हाँ! तूने इतनी रात में यहाँ आने का अपना मकसद तो बताया नहीं?"

इसपर शन्नो आँटी बोलीं- " अरे हाँ बीबी जी! मैं तो यह बताना ही भूल गयी कि अपनी रज़िया के यहाँ आज ही लड़के की पैदाइश हुई है और यह मेरा पहला नवासा है। इसलिए कल रात की आपसब की डिनर की दावत मेरे घर पर है।" यह सुनकर नानी बोलीं- " अरे शन्नो! रज़िया की शादी हुए तो महज़ तीन साढ़े तीन महीने ही हुए हैं इतनी जल्दी बच्चा कैसा?" इतना कहकर नानी ख़ामोश हो गयीं। इसपर शन्नो आँटी की आवाज़ आयी-" अरे तुम्हें क्या पता शादी तो बहुत पहले हो चुकी थी पर बच्चा अब हुआ।" शन्नो आँटी की इस बात पर हमने और नानी ने कोई ख़ास तवज्जो न दी। नानी बोलीं- 'पर शन्नो! एक बात यह तो बता कि तेरा घर तो छोटा है, तेरे और भी मेहमान आएंगे कहीं हमारे आने से तुझे कोई असुविधा तो नहीं होगी?" इसपर शन्नो आँटी की आवाज़ आयी-" बीबीजी आप चिंता न करो! ज़्यारत के पीछे जो मैदान है उसमें भी इंतजाम किया गया है। और हाँ! सब को आना है, तुम्हारे सब बच्चे, दूल्हा भाई, और नवासे को भी साथ लाना। हमलोगों को बहुत ख़ुशी होगी। कल रात को मेरा लड़का ननुआ खटोला (रिक्शा) लेकर आ जाएगा, उसमें बैठकर तुम सब आ जाना, और हाँ! अब मैं चलती हूँ यह वक्त तो तुम सब के सोने का वक्त होता है पर हमलोगों को तो इसी वक्त सब काम निपटाने होते हैं।" यह सुनकर मेरे मुंह से अचानक निकला-" क्या आंटी यह आपके सोने का टाइम नहीं है?" नानी ने मुझे तुरंत टोका और कहा चुप रह! और धीमी आवाज़ में बोलीं-" यह बेचारे ग़ मुझे भूत प्रेत देखने का काफ़ी अनुभव है। मैं आपसे एक एसे अनुभव को साझा करना चाहता हूँ जो वास्तव में बेहद डरावना अनुभव है। बात उन दिनों की है जब मेरी आयु मात्र 14-15 वर्ष रही होगी। उस समय मैं मैं इण्टरमीडिएट का छात्र था। मेरे पापा बिहार राज्य में एक चीनी मिल में सेवारत थे। उन्होंने हाईस्कूल पास करने के पश्चात मेरा दाख़िला अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा संचालित स्कूल में करवा दिया था। मेरे स्कूल में 15 दिन की जाड़े की छुट्टियाँ घोषित हो चुकी थीं इसलिए मैं छुट्टियाँ बिताने अपनी ननिहाल में आया हुआ था। मेरी ननिहाल उत्तर प्रदेश के बदायूं शहर में स्थित थी। 

ननिहाल में  मेरी नानी को ताश खेलने का बहुत शौक़ था। वह अक्सर रात में ताश खेलती थीं जब सब सो रहे होते थे। और खास तौर से जाड़ों की रातों में रज़ाई लपेटकर सूखे मेवे खाते हुए ताश खेला करती थी। वह ताश के खेल में मुझे तथा मेरी दो मौसियों को शामिल करती थीं। मेरी दोनों मौसियां उस समय अविवाहित थीं। ताश खेलते खेलते अक्सर रात के ढाई तीन बज जाया करते थे। कभी-कभी मेरी मौसियां रात में जागने के कारण आनाकानी करतीं तो नानी चिल्ला कर कहतीं- " अरे नजमा! तू माँ का इतना दिल नहीं रख सकती। मेरे दिल पर बहुत ग़म है। मुझे ज़ेबा (मेरी बड़ी मौसी) का ग़म खाए जाता है।"

नानी ने मेरी बड़ी मौसी अर्थात ज़ेबा खाला की शादी मुम्बई के एक धनाड्य परिवार में की थी। परन्तु अफ़सोस! उनके पति उनका ज़रा ख़्याल नहीं रखते थे। उन्होंने ज़ेबा ख़ाला को पाई पाई के लिए तरसा दिया था। नानी को यही ग़म खाए जाता था। एसे ही एक रात मैं, नानी और दोनों मौसियां ताश खेल रहे थे कि अचानक नानी बोलीं- " अरे ज़रा इस छिपकली को तो देखो!!! इसका पेट इतना क्यों फूल रहा है? यह तो मुझे गर्भवती लग रही है। मेरी ज़िबिया (ज़ेबा ख़ाला) भी गर्भवती होगी। हाय रे! मैं तो भूल ही गयी थी। मेरी ज़िबिया की जब विलादत होगी (बच्चा पैदा होगा) तब मैं धूमधाम से कार्यक्रम करूंगी। पर ए छिपकली रानी! तेरे तो लगता है कि बस विलादत होने ही वाली है। तू हमसब को अपने कार्यक्रम में बुलाएगी या नहीं!" नानी का छिपकली से एसा वार्तालाप सुनकर मेरी मौसियों ने सर पीट लिया और बोलीं- " अम्मा अब बस भी करो! हमें रातों में जगाती हो और छिपकलियों की दावतें उड़ाने के प्रोग्राम बनाती हो। अब हम तो चले सोने।" नानी मौसियों को आवाज लगाती रहीं पर मौसियां उछलकूद करती हुई अपने अपने कमरों में सोने चली गयीं और मैं और नानी ख़ूब ठहाके लगा कर हंसते रहे। नानी मुझे अपने पास ही रज़ाई में सुलाया करती थीं। बोलीं- "बेटा! रात काफ़ी हो गयी है अब तू भी सो जा!"

हमलोगों के शन्नो आँटी के साथ इस वार्तालाप में लगभग चालीस मिनट गुज़र चुके थे। रात बहुत बीत हो चुकी थी और अब हमलोग सोने के लिए अपने अपने बिस्तरों की ओर रवाना होने लगे। साथ चलते-चलते हुए ख़ाला नानी से बोलीं- "अम्मा तुमने दरवाज़ा खोलने नहीं दिया। शन्नो बाजी इतनी दूर से हमलोगों को दावत देने आयी थीं।" इसपर नानी ने कहा- " हाँ नजो! तू कहती तो ठीक है पर यह मेरा नियम है कि देर रात मैं किसी जानपहचान के व्यक्ति के लिए भी दरवाज़ा नहीं खोलती। देर रात दरवाज़ा केवल उसके लिए ही खुल सकता है जो इस परिवार का सदस्य हो। ख़ैर अब इन बातों को छोड़ो कल हम सभी को शन्नो के कार्यक्रम में निश्चित रूप से शिरकत करनी है।"

सुबह नाश्ते की टेबिल पर नानी ने नाना व सभी मामूओं को शन्नो आँटी की दावत के विषय में बताया और कहा कि समय पर सभी को तैयार हो जाना है। हमारे नाना ने काफ़ी ना-नुकुर की और बोले-" बीवी अब मैं दावतें अटैंड करने लायक़ नहीं रहा। तुम एसा करो कि सब बच्चों को और नवासे को साथ ले जाओ। मैं तो परहेज़ का खाना खाता हूँ। यहाँ पर करीम मेरा खाना बना देगा।" नाना की यह बात सुनते ही नानी नाना के सामने सीधी तनकर खड़ी हो गयीं और कड़कदार आवाज़ में बोलीं-" ओहो! तुम बूढ़े तो हो गए पर तुम्हारी नख़रे दिखाने की आदत गयी नहीं। कान खोल कर सुन लो, तुम्हें मेरे साथ चलना ही होगा।" अंततः नाना को नानी के आगे हथियार डालने ही पड़े और आख़िरकार सबलोग शन्नो आँटी की दावत में चलने को तैयार हो गए।

हम सभी लोग रात के आठ बजे तक पूरी तरह से तैयार थे। नानी ने अपने बालों में फूलों के गजरे भी लगा रखे थे तथा नाना शेरवानी पहन कर तैयार थे।  इतने में नानी जी नाना की ओर देखकर मुस्कुरा दीं और बोलीं- " जिधर देखती हूँ उधर तुम ही तुम हो, न जाने मगर किन ख़्यालों में गुम हो।" इसपर नाना बोले- " बीवी! एक ही के ख़्याल में गुम रहकर पछता रहा हूँ अब तुम ही बताओ इस बुढ़ापे में और किस किस के ख़्याल में गुम रहूँ ?" 

इसी हंसी मज़ाक़ के बीच साढ़े आठ बज गए। हमने देखा कि ठीक साढ़े आठ बजे ननुआ हमारे लिए रिक्शे की बजाय कार लेकर हाज़िर था। कार बिलकुल चमचमाती नयी कार थी। नानी ने ननुआ से कहा कि ज़रा सी दूर ही तो जाना है उसने इतना पैसा क्यों खर्च किया हमसब रिक्शे से चले जाते। ननुआ बोला-" कोई नहीं अम्मी ने बोला है कि सबको आराम से लेकर आना है। और हाँ! क़बूलपुरे वाला रास्ता खराब है इसलिए बिल्सी रोड होकर चलना होगा।" नाना ने कहा कोई नहीं जिस रास्ते से चाहो चलो हमें कोई जल्दी नहीं। नाना ने करीम को ज़रूरी हिदायत दी और कहा कि प्रोग्राम कब तक चले पता नहीं इसलिए वह अपना खाना खा कर सो जाए और हमलोगों  का इंतज़ार न करे और हमलोग पीछे से ताला लगा कर चले जाते हैं और जब आएंगे तो ताला खोलकर घर में दाख़िल हो जाएंगे। 

फिर हमसब लोग कार में बैठने लगे। मैने कार के अंदर एक अजीब तरह की गंध महसूस की। पर मैने इसपर कुछ ध्यान न दिया। मैं ड्राइवर के साथ वाली सीट पर बैठा और सभी मामूँ, खाला और नानी अंदर वाली सीटों पर बैठे। कार को देखकर एसा मालूम देता था कि सभी लोग इसमें एडजस्ट नहीं हो पाएंगे। मगर मुझे काफ़ी हैरत हुई जब मैने देखा कि सभी लोग कार में आराम से बैठ चुके हैं। ननुआ ने कहा कि वह पैदल पहुंच जाएगा और ड्राइवर को उसने सीट पर बैठा कर कुछ समझाया और हमारी कार मंज़िल की ओर चल पड़ी। 

कार में मैने देखा कि नाना और नानी कार की सीट के पीछे सर टिका कर सो चुके हैं। और यही हाल मामूँ ख़ाला का भी था। पर मैं जाग रहा था। मैने महसूस किया कि कार धीमी रफतार से चल रही है। इसके बाद  मुझे यह भी महसूस हुआ कि कार के ढांचे में  काफ़ी लचीलापन है। मैने झटके से बचने के लिए जैसे ही कार का हैंडल पकड़ा तो  लगा कि वह रबड़ की तरह से मुलायम है। मैने इसको अपने मन का वहम जाना और आँख मूंदकर मैने भी अपना सर सीट पर टिका दिया। पाँच छ: मिनट तक मैं एसे ही रहा फिर मैने  अचानक आँखें खोलीं तो देखता हूँ कि ड्राइवर की सीट तो खाली है और कार चल रही है। यह देखकर मेरे होश फ़ाख़्ता हो गए । मैने तुरंत पीछे मुड़कर देखा तो मेरे खाला मामूँ, नानी नाना आराम से सो रहे थे।  मैने दोबारा जब अपनी गरदन मोड़ी तो देखा कि ड्राइवर अपनी सीट पर विराजमान था।

अब मुझे लगा कि शायद मैं सोते में कोई सपना देख रहा हूँ । मैने अपनी बांह में नोचा तो मुझे दर्द की अनुभूति हुई। अब तो वास्तव में मैं बहुत डर गया था। मैने अपनी घड़ी में टाइम देखना चाहा तो घड़ी के सभी अंक मिटे हुए थे। आखिरकार मैने खिड़की के नीचे झांकने की कोशिश की कि देखूं अब कितना समय और लगेगा तो मुझे न तो सड़क दिखायी दी और न ही पेड़ पौधे। मुझे केवल धुएँ जैसा दिखायी दे रहा था और लगता था कि कार जैसे खड़ी हो चुकी है। मुझे सख्त उलझन हो रही थी व उस अंजान ड्राइवर पर बहुत गुस्सा भी आ रहा था कि मात्र 5-6 किलोमीटर के रास्ता इतना लम्बा कैसे हो गया था। 

मैने सख्त उलझन में ड्राइवर से तेज़ आवाज़ में कहा तुमने गाड़ी रोक क्यों रखी है। आखिर हमें दावत में कब तक पहुंचाओगे? ड्राइवर की ओर से कोई उत्तर नहीं आया पर कार के सामने लगे स्क्रीन पर रिकार्डिड वाॅयस मैसेज आया। " इट्स मैग्ज़ीमम  स्पीड इज़ 2500 किलोमीटर पर ऑवर एण्ड इट हैज़ रीच्ड इट मैग्ज़ीमम स्पीड"। अब तो मेरे साथ काटो तो खून नहीं वाली स्थिति उत्पन्न हो चुकी थी। मैने किसी तरह खुद को सम्भाला और बोला-" अरे ड्राइवर साब! कुछ बोलते क्यों नहीं कहाँ ले जा रहे हो हमें?" जब वहाँ से कोई उत्तर प्राप्त नहीं हुआ तो मैने ड्राइवर का कंधा झिंझोड़ा। पर यह क्या ड्राइवर का कंधा जिसमें स्प्रिंग लगे हुए थे वह मेरे हाथ में आ चुका था। अब तो मैं स्वयं बेहोश होने लगा पर मैने कार के स्क्रीन पर आवाज़ सुनी-" व्हाट यू हैव डन? नाऊ ऑल ऑफ़ यू आर डाइंग। दिस इज़ द लास्ट अटैम्प्ट टू सेव यौर लाइफ। जस्ट होल्ड डाउन ब्रोकिन पार्ट एण्ड ट्राई टू प्लेस इट फ़्राम व्हेयर इट इज़ ब्रोकिन एण्ड प्रेस द रेड बटन इम्मीडिएटली"।

मैने स्क्रीन पर लिखे व वाॅयस संदेश के निर्देशों का तुरंत पालन किया और आँखें मूंद कर ईश्वर को याद करने लगा। 'खटाक' की आवाज़ हुई तो क्या देखता हूँ कि ड्राइवर का हाथ वापस उसके कंधे से जुड़ जाता है व कार के स्क्रीन पर संदेश दिखायी देता- "थैंक गाॅड! नाऊ यू ऑल आर सेव्ड" । अब मुझे यह समझते देर न लगी जिसे हमलोग कार समझ रहे थे वह कार न होकर कोई चालक रहित यान है जो रोबोट द्वारा नियंत्रित है। मैने अब नानी नाना तथा ख़ाला मामूओं को जगाने की आवश्यकता नहीं समझी क्योंकि उनके जगने से हम सब किसी नयी मुसीबत में फंस सकते थे। इसलिए मैने शांत रहना ही उचित समझा। पर मैं लगातार सोच रहा था कि आखिर शन्नो आँटी के भेस में आया कौन था और ननुआ जिसको मैं अच्छी तरह पहचानता था क्योंकि वह मुझे अपने रिक्शे में अनेकों  बार घुमा फिरा चुका था। आखिर उसकी शक्ल में कौन आ गया?

मैं अभी सोच ही रहा था कि स्क्रीन पर आवाज़ सुनायी दी- "डोंट थिंक मच, यू ऑल आर अबाउट टू एन्जॉय द पार्टी!" अब मैने महसूस किया कि रोबोटिक्स के अलावा कोई अन्य अदृश्य शक्ति भी हमारे यान में मौजूद है जो मेरे मन को भी पढ़ने में सक्षम है। अब एसा प्रतीत हुआ कि एक झटके से कार रुक चुकी है। नाना- नानी, मामू- खाला अचानक से उठ बैठे और बोले क्या हम पहुंच गए? तभी पीछे से कार की डिग्गी से ननुआ निकलता हुआ आया और बोला-" हाँ मेमसाहब! हमलोग पहुंच गए।" पर ननुआ तू तो पैदल आ रहा था, नानी ने कहा तू हमारे साथ कैसे आया? इसपर ननुआ बोला-" मेमसाब! हमने सोचा साहब लोगों के साथ ही चलते हैं इसलिए डिग्गी में ही लटक लिए"। फिर हमसब एक जगह खड़े हो गए। हमने सामने से शन्नो आँटी व उसके पति, उसकी बेटी रज़िया व कुछ अंजान लोग हाथ में फूल मालाएं लेकर हमारी ही ओर आ रहे थे। उन लोगों ने हमारे पास पहंचकर हमारे ऊपर पुष्प वर्षा की, गले में मालाएं पहनायीं व हमारा भव्य स्वागत किया। तथा हमें अपने साथ लिवा कर पार्टी स्थल तक ले गए। वहाँ ज़बरदस्त संगीत बज रहा था और संगीत की धुन पर नाच गाना हो रहा था। हमें एक अत्याधुनिक व बेहद सजे हुए हाॅल में बैठाया गया। और सबसे पहले शरबत परोसा गया और उसके बाद तरह-तरह की मिठाइयाँ। उन मिठाइयों में चीनी की मिठास के स्थान पर गुढ़ की मिठास महसूस हो रही थी। हमारे साथ साथ हमारे नाना नानी व ख़ाला मामूँ सभी आश्चर्यचकित थे। वे कह रहे थे कि एसा हाॅल बदायूँ जैसे छोटे से शहर में होना तो बहुत दूर की बात दिल्ली, मुम्बई व कोलकाता जैसे बड़े शहरों में भी नहीं होगा। हमारी नानी हाॅल से बाहर निकल कर बार बार बाहर की ओर देखतीं तो उन्हें ज़यारत का पिछवाड़ा और उससे लगे खेत नज़र आते। नानी बार बार नाना से कहतीं-" शन्नो एक ग़रीब औरत है उसके यहाँ बादशाहों जैसा इंतजाम आखिर कराया किसने और मियाँ बाहर तो देखो हमलोग यहीं शन्नो के घर के पास ही तो हैं । समझ में नहीं आता आखिर यह सब क्या है?" और सबसे बड़ी हैरत की बात यह थी कि अब शन्नो की लम्बाई देखने में साढ़े छ: फ़ीट के आसपास लग रही थी और उनका चेहरा चौदहवीं के चांद की तरह चमक रहा था।

उस कार्यक्रम में उपस्थित सभी लोग हमारे लिए अंजान थे। पुरुषों की लम्बाई सात साढ़े सात फ़ीट के आसपास थी। सभी राजसी अंदाज़ में सजे धजे थे। हम सब लोगों को बड़ा ही अजीब लग रहा था। हमारे पास सभी लोग आकर झुक कर सलाम कर रहे थे। हमारे नाना नानी बहुत विचलित थे कि पता नहीं हमलोग किस दुनिया में आ चुके हैं । मामूँ कह रहे थे कि बदायूँ शहर तो मेरा पूरा देखा हुआ है मैं यहीं पला बढ़ा मगर मैने एसा आलीशान क़िले नुमा मकान पूरे बदायूँ शहर में कहीं देखा नहीं। फिर भोज आरम्भ हुआ सभी को चांदी की प्लेटों में और हमलोगों को सोने की प्लेटों में भोजन परोसा गया। उनकी वह एक प्लेट दिल्ली के रैस्टोरेंट कुटुम्ब सम्पूर्ण थाली से भी अधिक बड़ी दिखायी दे रही थी। हमारे आस-पास वेटर नुमा लड़के खड़े थे जो हमलोगों को वैज व नानवेज सभी तरह का भोजन परोस रहे थे। प्रत्येक डिश में केसर की भीनी भीनी सुगंध आरही थी। हमारे नाना मटन के बेहद शौक़ीन थे पर वह बोले- " अब बुढ़ापे में मेरे दांत इसकी आज्ञा नहीं देते"। इतने में रज़िया भारी भरकम शरारा पहने हुए मुसकुराते हुए आयी और बोली- " साहब जी! ज़रा इसे सिर्फ़ एक बार जीभ पर रख कर स्वाद ले लीजिए फिर बाद में थूक देना"। नाना जी कहते थे कि जैसे ही उन्होंने वह मटन पीस जीभ पर रखा वह मक्खन की तरह घुलता हुआ पेट में पहुंच गया। इसके बाद तो नाना जान ने मटन, चिकन, फ़िश, बिहारी पसंदे, शामी कबाब, काठी कबाब, सीख कबाब आदि की दावत का पूरा पूरा लुत्फ़ लिया। नानी टोकती रहीं पर नाना बोले कि आज तो खाने दो पता नहीं फिर कभी एसा मौका मिले या न मिले।

मामूँ खाला का भी यही हाल था जैसे वर्षों से भूखे रहे लोगों को आज भोजन नसीब हुआ हो। उस पार्टी में जहाँ तक मेरा अनुमान है दो- ढाई हज़ार प्रकार के भोजन रहे होंगे। खाया तो मैने भी भरपेट पर मेरे ननिहालियों ने छक कर खाया। खाने के पश्चात हमलोगों को विभिन् प्रकार के फ़्लेवर की आइसक्रीम व पेस्ट्री एवं ड्राइफ़्रूट पेश किए गए। उनका प्रत्येक मेहमान अपने हाथ से हमें ड्राइफ़्रूट खिलाना चाह रहा था। हमलोग सबके हाथों से थोड़े थोड़े ड्राइफ़्रूट ले रहे थे। वहाँ उपस्थित सभी लोग हमलोगों को झुक कर शुक्रिया कहते जाते। इस प्रकार आखिरकार हम सभी लोग खाने से फ़ारिग हुए। नानी बोलीं लगता है कि हम यहाँ काफ़ी वक्त तक ठहरे रहे। अब फ़ज्र का वक्त( सूर्योदय) हो रहा है हमें अपने मेज़बान से इजाजत लेनी चाहिए।  हमलोग और नानी-नाना उनसे वापिस जाने की आज्ञा लेने पहुंचे तो शन्नो आँटी व उनका लड़का ननुआ व उसकी बहन रज़िया तीनो हाथ जोड़े खड़े थे। वे बोले-" बीबीजी आपलोग हमारे इस झोंपड़े पर तशरीफ़ लाए इसके लिए हमलोग तहे दिल से शुक्रगुजार हैं ।आपलोगों की ख़िदमत में अगर कोई कोताही हुई हो तो हम ग़रीबों को माफ़ कर दीजियेगा।" 

नानी बोलीं- " अरे शन्नो! शर्मिंदा क्यों करती है। माशाअल्लाह तू बड़ी आदमी बन गयी है। तुम सबने हमलोगों की बहुत इज़्ज़त और ख़ातिरदारी की है। घर ज़रूर आना।अच्छा अब हमलोगों को अपने घर जाना है।" शन्नो आँटी बोलीं- " हाँ हाँ ज़रूर! ओए ननुए! अब देख क्या रहा है जा इनके लिए बढ़िया गाड़ी लेकर आ जिसकी चाल अच्छी हो। यहाँ लेकर आने में तो तूने घंटों लगा दिए।" ननुआ बोला- " अभी लो अम्मा जी! यह फ़र्राटा कार है यह चलेगी नहीं बल्कि उड़ेगी।" यह सुनकर मेरे मुंह से अचानक बेसाख़्ता निकल पड़ा-"पिछली वाली कार भी चलकर कब आयी है वह भी तो उड़कर ही आयी है।" मेरा उत्तर सुनकर शन्नो आँटी कुछ सकपका गयीं और अजीब अंदाज़ से मेरी ओर देखने लगीं। फिर मैने बात बनायी कि पिछली वाली कार भी अच्छी खासी स्पीड से चलकर आयी है। अब शन्नो आँटी नार्मल दिख रही थीं। जबकि मेरे नाना नानी ने मेरी किसी बात पर ध्यान ही न दिया।

हमारे लिए कार आ चुकी थी। हमसब उसमें बैठ चुके थे। तभी शन्नो आँटी ने मेरे हाथ में एक लिफ़ाफ़ा पकड़ाया और कहा- " बेटा! इसे घर पहुंचने के बाद खोल कर पढ़ लेना और जल्दी जल्दी पढ़ना और अगर अगर हो सके तो घर वालों के सामने बोल बोल कर पढ़ना क्योंकि लिफ़ाफ़ा खुलने के आधे घंटे के पश्चात इसकी लिखावट स्वतः ही मिट जाएगी और बेटा इस लिफ़ाफ़े में पच्चीस मिनट तक सामान्य गति से पढने का लेख लिखा हुआ है। मैने शन्नो आँटी के हाथ से वह लिफ़ाफ़ा लिया और अपने पैंट की पीछे की जेब में रख लिया। इसके बाद शन्नो आँटी व उनके बच्चों ने हमें बाॅय बोला और हमलोग घर की ओर रवाना हो गए। मैं इस कार में भी ड्राइवर के बराबर वाली सीट पर ही बैठा था पर इस समय कार कोई और ड्राइव कर रहा था। अचानक स्क्रीन पर वाॅयस मेसेज आया-" नाऊ वी आर मूविंग एट द रेट ऑफ़ फ़िफ़्टी थाउज़ैंड किलोमीटर पर ऑवर"। यह मैसेज सुनकर मैं अंदर से सहम गया।

लगभग पंद्रह मिनट के अंदर हमलोग अपने मुहल्ले की मुख्य सड़क पर पहुंच चुके थे। ड्राइवर ने इशारे से सड़क पर ही उतरने को बोला। हमलोग वहीं सड़क पर उतर गए और अपने घर की ओर चल दिए। हमलोग लगभग दस मिनट के अपने घर के मुख्य द्वार पर पहुंच गए। मैने घर का ताला खोला तो करीम दादू को आंगन में चटाई पर बैठे पाया। नाना बोले अरे करीम तू यहाँ एसे क्यों बैठा है? और करीम दादू जिन्हें हमलोग कमुल्ला दादू भी कहते थे, हमलोगों को आँखें फाड़ फाड़ कर देख रहे थे। अब नानी बोलीं- " क्यों रे कमुए! हमारे सर पर सींग उग आए हैं क्या जो हमें एसे देख रहा है? तू कुछ बोलेगा भी या एसे देखता ही रहेगा?" 

अब कमुल्ला दादू को कुछ होश आया तो बोले-" साहब जी! आख़िर आपलोग चले कहाँ गए थे? मैं तो आपलोगों को दुनिया जहान में ढूंढ आया मगर आप किसी का पता न चला। आपके सारे रिश्तेदारों से पूछ आया मगर किसी ने आपके बारे में नहीं बताया। सब मुझ पर ही शक कर रहे थे। मैं क़समें खाता रहा, घुटनों में सर दे देकर रोता रहा मगर कोई मुझ पर यक़ीन करने को तैयार न हुआ। आपके चचेरे भाई साहब बोले कि अगर आज दोपहर तक भइया भाभी और बच्चों का सुराग न मिला तो वह मुझे पुलिस को दे देंगे। और साहब जी! वह जो शन्नो है न ! उसके घर भी गया मैं, हाँ साहब जी, वह बोली कि कमुए तेरी हिम्मत कैसे हो रही है मेरी बेटी पर एब लगाने की, उसकी शादी को चार महीने हुए नहीं कि तू कहता है कि वह बच्चा जनेगी और तू हमारा मज़ाक़ उड़ा रहा है क्या हमलोगों  के ख़ुद के खाने का तो ठीक नहीं है और हम क्या करेंगे अमीरों के चोंचले यह पार्टी-शार्टी। देख सुधर जा कमुए! मुझे हल्के में मत लेना, मैने अगर ज़रा सा भी इशारा कर दिया तो मेरी बिरादरी के लोग तेरा कचूमर निकाल देंगे।"

कमुल्ला दादू ने एक सांस में अपनी सारी व्यथा सुना दी और हमारी ओर देखने लगे। अब हमारे बड़े मामूँ बोले-" पर करीम चाचा! हमलोग आपको बता कर तो गए थे कि हमें आने में कुछ देरी भी हो सकती है और इसीलिए तो हमलोगों ने पीछे से ताला भी लगाया कि आपको असुविधा न हो। और आप क्या एक रात में ही सारे रिश्तेदारों और शन्नो बाजी के यहाँ घूम आए हो? अरे कुछ तो शर्म करो! झूठ बोलने की भी एक हद होती है।" मामूँ का वक्तव्य सुनकर कमुल्ला दादू बोले-" अच्छा! तो तुमलोगों का मतलब है मैं झूठा हूँ? पता है यह कौनसा दिन है? ज़रा कैलेंडर पर निगाह डाल लो। तुमलोग एक रात का कहकर गए थे पर चौथे दिन घर में दाख़िल हो रहे हो और झूठा बता रहे हो मुझे? और मेरी सुविधा-असुविधा का बड़ा ख़्याल था तुम सबको जब ही तो चार दिनों के लिए घर में बंद करके चल दिए। मैं जानता हूँ कि आंगन वाले दरवाज़े की ज़ंजीर किस तरह से खोल कर बाहर निकल पाया हूँ ।" अब बारी थी हम सबके एकसाथ चौंकने की। हमारे नाना बोले- " ज़रूर कुछ न कुछ गड़बड है"। तभी अचानक मुझे तथाकथित शन्नो आँटी द्वारा दिए उस पत्र का ध्यान आया। मैने तुरंत लिफ़ाफ़ा खोला। यह चिकने कागज़ पर हिन्दी भाषा में लिखा एक पत्र था। मैने उस पत्र को बोल-बोल कर पढ़ना आरंभ किया। उसमें लिखा था-

मुअज़्ज़िज़ भाई साहब व भाभी जी को आदाब, बच्चों और नवासे को ढेर सारा प्यार और दुआएं!

इस वक्त आप सबलोग हमलोगों को लेकर ख़ासे परेशान होगे और शायद हमारा ही ज़िक्र आपके घर में हो भी रहा हो। तो सुनिए जनाब! आपलोगों की तरह हमलोग भी ईश्वर की एक मख़लूख़ ( कृति) हैं। अंतर केवल यह है कि आपलोगों का एक निश्चित रूप,रंग व आकार है परन्तु हमलोगों का कोई भी निश्चित रूप नहीं है। पर हम इच्छाधारी होते हैं। आपलोग इस पृथ्वी पर जन्म लेते हैं और यहीं आपकी मृत्यु होती है। परन्तु हमारे जन्म एवं मृत्यु के स्थान के विषय में कोई निश्चितता नहीं होती। आपलोगों की आयु सीमित होती है, अधिक से अधिक सौ वर्ष पर हमारे यहाँ सौ वर्ष का तो एक छोटा सा बालक होता है। हमलोगों की सामान्य आयु हज़ार-  बारह सौ वर्ष तक तो होती ही है।

उस दिन हमारी बेटी रात के समय एक गर्भवती  छिपकली के रूप में विचरण कर रही थी तब भाभी जी की दृष्टि उसपर पड़ी और भाभी जी ने उससे पार्टी देने का आग्रह किया। शुरु में तो हमारी बेटी खामोश रही पर बार बार अनुग्रह करने पर उसने दावत खिलाने का वादा कर लिया। हमलोग बात के धनी व वादे के पक्के होते हैं। हमें हर हाल में अपने वादे को निभाना था पर हमारे सामने समस्या यह थी कि अपना रूप परिवर्तित करने हेतु हमें एक स्थान विशेष पर जाना होता था। मेरा वास्तविक नाम शन्नो ही है, मेरी बेटी का नाम रज़िया व लड़के का नाम ननुआ ही है। हमने अपने ज्ञान के आधार पर पता लगा लिया कि इन नामों के व्यक्ति आपलोगों से सम्बंधित तो रहे हैं पर नौकर व  उसके परिवार के रूप में। जबकि हमलोगों का सम्बन्ध राजशाही परिवार से है। अब हमलोगों के पास केवल एक ही चारा था कि हम आपके नौकरानी का रूप धारण करके आपके समक्ष उपस्थित हों और हमने एसा ही किया। और इसके पश्चात वही सबकुछ हुआ जो आपने देखा होगा और महसूस किया होगा। आपको हमारे यान को देखकर यदि आश्चर्य हुआ हो तो बस हम यह कहना चाहते हैं कि हमारे पास आपलोगों से उन्नत कोई भी तकनीक नहीं है।विज्ञान एवं तकनीक के मामले में हमलोग पूरी तरह से आपलोगों पर निर्भर हैं। हाँ जो आपलोगों के यहाँ जो इन क्षेत्रों में विकास होते हैं, उससे हमलोग राजसी परिवार के सदस्य होने के नाते सबसे पहले लाभान्वित होते हैं। और हाँ! भाई साहब जो बार बार बाहर देखकर स्थान का अंदाजा लगाने की कोशिश कर रहे थे कि वह किस स्थान पर हैं और यह देखकर अंदर आ जाते थे कि ज़्यारत व खेत दिख रहे हैं। वह वास्तविकता नहीं थी बल्कि "ऑगमेंटिड रियलिटी तकनीक " के कारण एसा प्रतीत हो रहा था। हम आपलोगों को कहाँ लेकर गए थे यह हम अपनी प्रतिज्ञा के कारण नहीं बता सकते पर यह अवश्य बता सकते है कि वह पृथ्वी लोक का ही एक स्थान था पर आपलोगों के स्थान से बहुत दूर स्थित था। हमारे कारण आपलोगों को जो असुविधा हुई उसके लिए हमारा पूरा परिवार आपलोगों से क्षमा का प्रार्थी है। 

तो यह था उनका पत्र। हालांकि उनके कहे के मुताबिक पढ़ने के साथ साथ उसके शब्द मिटते चले जा रहे थे पर मुझे उस पत्र का एक एक शब्द कंठस्थ हो चुका था। इस अद्भुत घटना के पश्चात हमारी नानी ने रात में ताश खेलना बिलकुल ही बंद कर दिया था। वह यदि घर में या बाहर किसी छिपकली को देख लेतीं तो मुंह पर हाथ रख लिया करतीं । आपलोग कृपया कमेन्ट देकर बताएं कि यह कैसी घटना थी?
